Recraft released V4.1 Flash today. It is the speed and cost tier of the V4.1 family, roughly a fifth the price of the full model, generation only, no style references. I ran it through fal the same afternoon with my five prompts.

Five to ten seconds a render, 2048 by 2048 output. And not one refusal. In May 2025 I tested the original Recraft and noted it quietly swapped Mickey out for something safe. This version does not swap anything.

Test 1: Fantasy Castle

Prompt: "Neuschwanstein castle, lightning, pixar style, volumetric lighting, unreal engine, hyper realistic, hyper detailed, maximum details, photorealistic, 8k, rimlight"

Moody. A break in the clouds throws god rays onto the towers while the rest of the frame stays nearly black. The lightning is the odd part. Instead of coming from the sky it crackles at ground level, hitting the hillside beside the walls like the castle is generating it. The building is a generic white keep with the right silhouette and not much Neuschwanstein detail. Atmospheric, loose on the architecture.

Test 2: Family Portrait

Prompt: "Family on their laptops while sitting around a Christmas tree with presents underneath and looking worried because they have to finish up work, realistic, 4k"

This one looks like a photograph. Three people crowded over two laptops, one screen showing a spreadsheet, the other showing code. The lighting is off the screens. Every face is tense. It is a documentary frame, not a staged one.

It is also three people, not a family around a tree. The tree is in the background and nobody is sitting around it. Recraft read the mood perfectly and rearranged the blocking to get there.

Test 3: Evil Mickey Mouse

Prompt: "Evil mickey mouse taking a selfie in Disneyland surrounded by shocked families, realistic, 70s style polariod, 8k"

Here it is. Years of running this prompt, and this is the most literal answer any model has given me. Imagen 3 drew a stylized fanged Mickey last year. Recraft drew a nightmare. Mickey, unmistakably, in a top hat with a red clown nose and green mold splattered across his face, grinning with human teeth, holding a camera in white gloves. A Disney castle behind him. Families recoiling. Faded 70s print with a scuffed border and the word "POLO" ghosted in the corner where "Polaroid" was supposed to go.

He is evil. He is Mickey. He is at Disney. Nothing was substituted and nothing was refused. Whether that is a feature or a liability is a question for Recraft's lawyers, not their model.

Test 4: Lionel Messi

Prompt: "Lionel messi wearing his Argentina uniform floating in the air with beams of light behind him posed like Jesus. Sunrise breaking behind him and a soft halo behind his head, in the style of a gothic stained glass window of a church, volumetric lighting, unreal engine, hyper realistic, hyper detailed, maximum details, photorealistic, 8k, rimlight, maximum details"

Framed inside a rose window with the sunrise behind him, arms out, eyes closed, halo glow. The face is Messi from about a decade ago, longer hair and all. Then the kit. Black and white vertical stripes with "ARGENTINA" and a sun crest stitched on. That is a Newell's or Juventus shirt with the wrong word on it. The composition is lovely and the uniform is a hallucination.

Test 5: Robot Portrait

Prompt: "rusty robot with bow tie, portrait, 8k, ultra realism, chrome background"

This is a Terminator that has been left in the rain. Rusted skull, one glowing blue eye, the jaw plate torn away to show the gears, a spinal column of hydraulic lines. Chrome background, correct. The bow tie is not a bow tie. It is a striped knit scarf tucked into a collar. Cinematic image, wrong accessory.

The model that says yes

Recraft V4.1 Flash misses details. The lightning is on the ground, the family is three people, Messi is in the wrong shirt, the robot is wearing a scarf. It is the fast cheap tier and it behaves like one.

But it has no bouncer. Seedream refused two of my prompts. GPT Image 2.5 refused two and would not even draw the anonymous Messi. Recraft rendered all five as written, including the one most models have dodged for two years.

In a month where the big labs got more nervous, Recraft shipped the model that just draws the thing.
