I love driving across the country. I hate stopping and I hate wasting time and energy. What if I could watch TV while driving? What if I could connect via software to other Tesla drivers hauling ass down I-10 going to Disneyworld? Could we extend our range and reduce stop?

So I had AI spend some time thinking about this. Turns out it isn't a horrible idea. The software is there to do it. And with the Tesla model names being S, 3, X, Y, it's about time these models pulled a train.

Here are the product details for the Tesla Train.

Miles Driven: 2,460 miles

Energy Consumption and Savings:

Total driving hours: 2,460 miles / 70 mph = 35.14 hours
Total charging time: 7 charges * 35 minutes = 245 minutes (4.08 hours)
Total travel time: 35.14 hours + 4.08 hours = 39.22 hours

Number of Charges Required: Based on 340 miles per charge for a Tesla Model 3, charging from 10% to 90%

Lead Car: 2,460 miles / 306 miles per charge = 8.04 charges
Following Cars: Extended range by 25%, so 2,460 miles / 425 miles per charge = 5.79 charges
Average number of charges per car: (8.04 + 5.79) / 2 = 6.91 charges

Cost of Energy and Savings: Assuming $0.38 per kWh

Cost without train (Per Car): 738 kWh * $0.38 = $280.44
Cost with train (Per Car): 610.2 kWh * $0.38 = $231.88
Cost savings (Per Car): $280.44 - $231.88 = $48.56
Total cost savings (5 cars): $48.56 * 5 = $242.80

The really exciting thing is that out of the 40 hours it will take to drive across the country, each leader will only have to pay attention and "drive" for 8 hours. The rest of the time is relaxation, sleep and TV time. You will be safe. There will still be a human at the wheel (but maybe 4 cars ahead of you in the train) and you will save money if you just decided to drive it yourself.
